Project diagnostics

It is often difficult for management to tell if a project is running well. Reliant on reports from project managers who have "refined" project schedules and progress through project management tools, they may be unaware of whether a project is actually achieving what it is supposed to achieve. A full project audit can be cumbersome (and is often a last resort when it already known that a project is in trouble). A project diagnosis can be kept short and simple, with the option of expanding it to deal with particular symptoms.

Definitions

This Topic examines the project management life-cycle and shows how post-implementation reviews work within it, using this to show the difference between post-implementation reviews and project diagnoses. The Topic then discusses the differences between project audits and project diagnoses. Finally, it compares the forms of medical diagnosis with a project diagnosis.
